Gulab storm effect: Nearly 50,000 acres Crop damaged in Telangana

Velugu, Network: The impact of Gulabi cyclone has affected the State immensely by causing enormous loss at all levels. Due to the torrential rains on Monday and Tuesday damaged crops of various nature in about 50 acres of lands. Crops like Cotton, Maize, Soya and Chilly were severely damaged because of the flood caused by severe rains for two days continuously. Though the rains subsided by the evening of Tuesday the resultant flood situation is still grave with lakes overflowing with flood water. In some areas the water was still overflowing on the low level bridges resulting in cutting off of hundreds of villages and affected the vehicular traffic to the villages. Sirisilla and Nizamabad towns were submerged under flood water and three people were swept away in the floods and a worker was killed in house collapse. All the projects are brimming with the flow of flood water from Godavari and its subsidiaries. The officials who kept the gates opened released the water downwards. The flood situation in many districts in the State is still grim and the intensity of damage caused by it gradually surfacing. The district wise crop damage is said to be enormous with officials revealing the extent of damage in Nirmal, Manchiryal, Asifabad, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Jaishankar Bhupallapalli,Khmmm, Mahboobnahar, where crops in thousands of acres have been severely damaged. Paddy, Soya and Maize like crops were affected and house collapses, road damages were reported. Farmers in these district lament that their hopes of good crop yield evaporated as their farm lands were submerged under flood water. The crop loss was not only due to floods but also with the lifting of gates of reservoirs and releasing of excess water downwards. Due to this many villages are still reeling under water. In many places a number roads were severely damaged affecting resulting in stoppage of people movement. During the same period last year crops in 15 acres of land was damaged and the officials then estimated that the damage would be around Rs.7cr. Unfortunately the affected farmers have not been paid any compensation by the Government.
